On behalf of the entire Think Dignity team, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for joining us at the 2024 Secret Garden Fundraising Gala last Saturday at JULEP Venue. Your presence and support made the evening truly memorable!
With over 100 guests in attendance, the energy in the room was incredible, and the Voices of Our City Choir moved us all with their inspiring performance. We are thrilled with the positive response to our silent auction, live auction, and paddle raise, and are deeply appreciative of everyone who participated.
Voices of Our City Choir member leads an emotional performance creating a palpable air of gratitude at the Secret Garden Gala.
Thanks to your generosity, we can continue our mission of advancing basic dignity for people experiencing homelessness in San Diego through innovative programming, legal services, and advocacy. This support is particularly meaningful as we celebrate 18 years of service to our community. With your support, Think Dignity raised over $81,000 during the gala. Thanks to your generous pledges, we expect that number to go much higher, which means your generous donation will go that much further in helping us continue to advance basic dignity for those living without permanent shelter.
Dignity Defender Award
A Dignity Defender demonstrates exemplary qualities of uplifting and empowering our community through the impactful work of restoring, advancing, and defending dignity for those experiencing homelessness. They uphold TD’s mission to inspire, empower, and organize our community to advance basic dignity for those living on the streets through meaningful advocacy and innovative problem solving.
This year, we are excited to celebrate two Dignity Defenders for their amazing work with the community.
Jeff Chinn, President of Burrito Boyz, was selected for his years of dedicated service feeding the homeless in Downtown and East Village. Likewise, his commitment to leading and cultivating the next generation of community advocates in the teens and young adults at Burrito Boyz has earned Chinn the distinction of 2024 Dignity Defender.
As a first generation Mexican-American and South San Diego native, Gilberto (Gil) Vera has dedicated his career to public service through serving indigent tenants in Los Angeles and San Diego County. Vera, Deputy Director at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, was nominated and selected for this award due to his support of Think Dignity’s strategic plan alignment and, moreover, for his unwavering support of veterans experiencing homelessness.
