Housing as a
Human Right

At Think Dignity, we champion the belief that housing is not a privilege—it is a fundamental human right. The Housing as a Human Right campaign addresses the systemic inequities and barriers that deny individuals and families access to adequate, affordable, and dignified housing.

Inspired by local, national, and international commitments to housing as a human right, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we advocate for policies and solutions that:

Center Equity

Prioritizing those historically excluded from housing opportunities, including marginalized and disadvantaged communities.

Combat Homelessness

Addressing root causes of homelessness and implementing sustainable, inclusive housing solutions, such as Affordable Housing, Permanent Supportive Housing, and accessible housing options.

Promote Accountability

Working with policymakers and communities to ensure that housing policies uphold the principles of equity, accessibility, and habitability.

This campaign builds on San Diego’s declaration of housing as a fundamental human right and its commitment to equity in housing policy, while acknowledging the critical need for systemic change. By addressing redlining, affordability challenges, and displacement, we aim to ensure that everyone has access to safe and stable housing, regardless of income, background, or ability.

Join us in creating a future where housing is a foundation of dignity and security for all.

Project for Sanitation Justice

The Project for Sanitation Justice is a bold advocacy initiative committed to transforming public health and dignity through equitable access to safe, clean, and inclusive sanitation facilities. Rooted in the belief that sanitation is a human right, we collaborate with policymakers, community leaders, and impacted individuals to address systemic inequities in restroom accessibility for vulnerable populations, including those experiencing homelessness.

Our work involves:

Education and Awareness

Highlighting the critical link between sanitation justice, public health, and human dignity.

Advocacy and Policy Reform

Driving legislation that ensures universal access to public restrooms.

Community Engagement

Partnering with marginalized communities to amplify their voices and tailor solutions to their needs.

Together, we aim to break down barriers to hygiene, eliminate stigma, and create a future where no one is denied the basic right to use the restroom. Join us in the movement for sanitation justice and make a meaningful impact today.

Decriminalization of Homelessness

The Decriminalization of Homelessness campaign at Think Dignity seeks to shift the approach to homelessness from punishment to support, recognizing that homelessness is a social issue requiring compassionate solutions—not criminal penalties. We advocate for the rights of unhoused individuals and challenge policies that marginalize and further harm those experiencing homelessness.

Our work focuses on:

Advocating for Human Rights

We believe that homelessness should not be treated as a crime. Everyone deserves access to safe housing, education, and essential services, without facing discrimination or displacement.

Promoting Solutions-Based Approaches

We support the implementation of comprehensive plans like the Community Action Plan on Homelessness, which emphasize support over punishment. Our goal is to reduce homelessness through systemic changes, not criminalization.

Protecting Vulnerable Populations

With over 11,000 homeless students in San Diego, encampment bans and punitive measures disproportionately harm children and families, pushing them further from stability, education, and essential support services.

The campaign challenges systemic inequities and works to ensure that policies reflect a commitment to housing, education, and human rights for all. We believe in creating a San Diego where homelessness is addressed through dignity and opportunity—not through criminalization.

Join us in advocating for a more just and equitable approach to homelessness.
