Dignity Legal Services
Launching in 2026, our new Dignity Legal Services program was designed to expand access to justice for people experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
Dignity Legal Services will offer supportive, community-centered legal assistance focused on removing barriers and promoting dignity. This program expands on Think Dignity’s 20 years of defending dignity through direct legal services and advocacy efforts.

Legacy Legal Services
Think Dignity is known for our innovative, human-centered approach to serving our community. For 20 years, our organization has stood by our unhoused and at-risk neighbors defending dignity through our legal programs. Through partnerships with other services providers in San Diego, we have been able to sharpen our focus and increase our impact.
Below are some of the legacy legal services Think Dignity has innovated during our first 20 years of defending dignity for San Diegans. While these programs are no longer offered, they remain central to our organization’s history and inform our renewed Dignity Legal Services.
Legal Referral Clinics
Our Legal Referral Clinics were established in 2012 to provide safe and confidential access to justice by empowering homeless individuals in addressing their legal issues with the support of our attorneys. Through our partnership with local attorneys, law students, and law firms, our Legal Referral Clinics have supported over 1,500 civil and criminal cases.
Homeless Youth Legal Advocacy Project
The Homeless Youth Legal & Advocacy Project (HYLAP) was launched in 2017 to address criminal defense issues that hinder youth experiencing homelessness from growth and independence and connect them to essential resources. HYLAP has represented over 230 clients, assisted with over 500 legal issues, and saved more than $500,000 in legal fees and fines.
Know Your Rights
Our Know Your Rights card set serves as a “Bill of Rights” explaining the seven areas of law most likely to affect people experiencing homelessness in response to the rising criminalization rates of unhoused individuals.
